Global Director of Communications

 

World Ovarian Cancer Coalition

The World Ovarian Cancer Coalition is seeking a Global Director of Communications to lead its international communications strategy and activate its global network of more than 200 member organisations worldwide.

This is a senior leadership role reporting to the CEO, responsible for shaping how the Coalition communicates its mission, impact, and advocacy priorities in a clear, consistent, and evidence-driven way, while mobilising members behind the Coalition’s global priorities, research and campaigns.

 

About the Role

As Global Director of Communications, you will set and deliver a global communications strategy that strengthens awareness of ovarian cancer, supports advocacy and fundraising, and activates a diverse global network of member organisations behind shared priorities and campaigns.

You will lead a small, high-performing team and act as a key strategic advisor to senior leadership.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

 

Strategy & Leadership

  • Own and deliver the global communications strategy aligned with organisational priorities
  • Act as a senior advisor to the CEO and leadership team
  • Ensure consistent messaging through a strong, evidence-based “message house”
  • Lead annual integrated communications planning across campaigns and priorities

 

Impact & Reporting

  • Define and track communications KPIs linked to organisational impact, including member activation and engagement
  • Translate data into clear insights and a compelling annual Impact Report

 

Membership Activation & Collaboration

  • Develop and lead a membership activation strategy that mobilises the network behind the Coalition’s global priorities, evidence and advocacy asks
  • Strengthen collaboration across 200+ member organisations
  • Design and deliver a global membership survey
  • Enable knowledge-sharing, best practice exchange, and peer-to-peer collaboration
  • Drive member adoption and amplification of the Coalition’s evidence and Global Ovarian Cancer Charter

 

Issues & Reputation Management

  • Lead global issues management and crisis communications planning
  • Proactively protect and strengthen the Coalition’s global reputation

 

Campaigns & Awareness

  • Lead global delivery of World Ovarian Cancer Day and key awareness initiatives, driving high levels of member-led activation and participation
  • Ensure campaigns are adaptable, inclusive, and locally relevant

 

Media & Thought Leadership

  • Develop a proactive global media strategy
  • Build relationships with international and specialist media
  • Position the Coalition as a trusted global voice in ovarian cancer advocacy

 

Digital & Channels

  • Oversee website, social media, newsletters, and digital campaigns
  • Ensure consistency, accessibility, and performance-driven content

 

Fundraising & Partnerships

  • Support fundraising through strategic storytelling and donor communications
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure clear, values-aligned messaging

 

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small communications team
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and learning-oriented culture

 

What We’re Looking For

 

Essential Experience

  • Senior communications leadership experience in a global NGO, health, pharma/biotech industry or advocacy environment
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver global communications strategies
  • Strong experience in impact measurement, KPIs, and reporting
  • Expertise in issues and reputation management
  • Strong media relations and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing teams and complex stakeholder networks
  • Track record of activating or mobilising a member, chapter, or affiliate network behind shared campaigns, evidence, or advocacy goals

 

Desirable

  • Experience in women’s health, cancer advocacy, or global health
  • Experience supporting fundraising or corporate/pharma partnerships
  • Familiarity with policy or evidence-based advocacy

We are a small, global, mission-driven team working at pace. We value clarity, collaboration, curiosity, and accountability. This role requires someone equally comfortable thinking strategically and rolling up their sleeves to deliver.

  • Location: Fully remote
  • Time commitment: Part-time (4 days per week)
  • Reporting to: CEO
